Lent Leads to Easter

The Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which occurs forty days prior to Easter, not counting Sundays. During Lent we remember Jesus' journey to the cross and ponder our own weaknesses and challenges, both personally and as a society. On Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, we had a 30-minute worship service in our Sanctuary. Other Lenten activities include Communion and a Taize worship service on February 18, Palm Sunday observance on March 25, Maundy Thursday Communion on March 29, and the Sanctuary being open for prayer and meditation on Good Friday from noon until 3:00 p.m.

Our Easter Celebration is on April 1.

Other activities are on-going. At the church, please consider taking part in out regular weekday activities:
  • Pastor Schmitt leads a meditation group every Wednesday morning at 9:00. Coffee and snacks are enjoyed afterwards.
  • Rev. Melinda Townsend leads a yoga group for an hour every Saturday morning at 8:30 in the Boulevard Room.
  • Our congregation continually collects non-perishable foods for the Jefferson County "Action Center." Put food items in the grocery cart in the Church Foyer. The final Sunday of each month is a "deadline" for that month.

Also, our Deacons and Trustees meet every second Saturday at 9:30 and 10:30, respectively.

Our Pastor, Claudia Schmitt
The United Church of Christ has a somewhat liberal or open-minded reputation. The United Church of Christ was formed in 1957 by a merger of the Congregational Christian and the Evangelical and Reformed ("E & R") denominations.
Wheat Ridge Congregational Church is a relatively small congregation. However, what we may lack in membership size we more than make up for in enthusiasm, generosity, and Christian love.
